Electric Vehicle Fleet Optimization Software

Save Cost, Reduce CO2 Emissions

To build a mine, you have always needed planning software. Now, with the onset of EV technology, that includes software to map and plan energy usage throughout the mine—a critical element in efficient and low-cost production.

With MEDATech Electric Vehicle Fleet Optimization Software (EV-FOS), you can build a mine electrification plan that’s both optimal and practical, based on technology that’s available today.

EV-FOS is the product of a multi-year collaboration between MEDATech Engineering and McMaster University’s Bauman Lab for Electrified Powertrain Research. Major miners like Anglo American, Glencore, Newmont and Torex Gold are currently using our EV-FOS services to optimize operations and save cost while reducing CO2 emissions. How about you?

Optimize Mine Development and Mine Production

MEDATech EV-FOS optimizes battery-electric vehicle (BEV) energy usage for new and existing mines. It’s as useful for mine development as it is for production, clearly showing the effectiveness of BEVs compared to diesel in all mines, as well as optimal BEV type, battery size and charging infrastructure. Get dollars per tonne by the level, by the year, for fast charging, for battery swapping, and for diesel—for 20-tonne up to 50-tonne haulage fleets.

Compare Electric and Diesel for Your Mine

EV-FOS compares apples to apples: BEV fleets versus diesel fleets in terms of life-of-mine vehicle costs, CO2 emissions, fuel, and ventilation costs, as well as vehicle maintenance. It also shows the difference in cost and production values between fast charging, battery swapping and onboard charging.

Measure In Dollars Per Tonne

One important output is identifying dollars per tonne for the whole fleet. That includes labour, capital costs, operation costs, and ventilation costs for mines designed for electric operations. It compares these figures to operational and ventilation costs for mines designed only around diesel power, for an equivalent production requirement.

Costs break down into categories:

• Ventilation
• Truck & battery capital costs
• Operating costs
• Battery swapping/fast charging infrastructure

The Genesis of EV-FOS

In 2017, MEDATech began developing EV-FOS software in collaboration with the McMaster University Computer Science department’s Bauman Lab for Electrified Powertrain Research. The starting point was our detailed knowledge of electric and diesel vehicle performance characteristics and years of experience in designing vehicles specifically for underground mining.

Built in MATLAB, the software approaches BEV optimization in mines from the practical (vehicle) side. Its goal is to ensure that the transition to electrification is profitable. The alternative to using our software is developing your own calculations or guessing. With millions or tens of millions of dollars hanging in the balance, it makes sense to invest in software that yields accurate forecasts.
