June 12, 2018 Most of us relate electrification to underground mining for many obvious reasons, lower ventilation requirement and cost optimization being the two primary ones. The question is ‘Does electrification hold equally good with respect to open-pit mining?’. With a belief that electrification makes sense irrespective of the nature of mining, NMG CEO Éric Desaulniers planned an all electric surface mine. “It’s good for business, it’s good for the environment and I think that’s the way to go,” said Éric Desaulniers.
