Software Controls Development

MEDATech’s software and controls capabilities are rooted in a deep understanding of heavy-duty mobile equipment for mining, construction, defense, waste management, transport and other sectors. We develop and integrate software and controls systems specifically for heavy-duty mobile machines where reliability, precise control, automation and compliance with safety standards are the goals.

Purpose-built mobile equipment integration

Most client engagements begin with the same question: Can you make this machine work the way we need it to? 

Often, the answer involves bringing older or unsupported equipment into the modern era. MEDATech regularly works with decades-old machines—sometimes with no ECMs, relay box controls, or strictly mechanical actuation—and upgrades them with sensors, CAN bus communication, and modern electronic controls. The goal is practical modernization to improve efficiency and/or extend equipment life.

In each case, MEDATech acted as a systems integrator: understanding the machine, its duty cycle, and its safety requirements, then designing controls that fit the application.

Extending equipment life

A recurring theme across projects is life extension. Many clients face equipment obsolescence because the original controllers or subsystems are no longer available. MEDATech replaces end-of-life systems with modern control hardware, updated communication architectures, and application-specific logic. This gives your equipment another decade of productive use—and often improved efficiency and operation.

MathWorks Simulink

Simulink is a powerful tool for simulation, data acquisition and industrial software development. The Simulink software set allows us to quickly simulate a systems architecture and generate code from the design. MEDATech has created custom Simulink Blocks, which are used specifically for the development of industrial equipment software, drastically shortening development time—creating savings that we pass onto you.

Advanced Monitoring

We produce advanced telemetric monitoring tools and software that allow us to pull, store and analyze important information from heavy equipment in the field. Real-time data is what we use as a basis for feasibility studies and for improving performance in everything from battery-electric drivetrains, to monorail-based mining machinery, to drilling parameters. 

HMI Development

We design graphical human-machine interfaces (HMIs) with some of the most advanced electronics available for mobile heavy equipment. All interfaces that we develop or co-develop with customers include documentation for their use and service. We have worked with many major manufacturers and can easily support your HMI development needs.

VMU Software Development

The vehicle management unit (VMU) software that MEDATech has developed for many heavy-equipment applications is open-source, which guarantees an upgrade path, should customers wish to make changes in the future. In designing each VMU, our engineers carefully consider your software needs and tailor it to your particular application.
